My childhood was surrounded by the alchemy of my parents model-making business. I’d return from school to the smell of fresh resin and find a shimmering ice cave in the shed or a giant spider web spanning the living room.
The processes and materials that resulted in these unlikely manifestations seemed just as magical to me and my impulse to make things grew from there.
During my art foundation at Kingston Polytechnic I became interested in photography. This drew me to travel. I started exhibiting my work at photography fairs and was approached by galleries and photo libraries resulting in gallery representation, exhibitions and publication.
Following my degree in fine art, I became involved in prop-making and scenery – a profession combining the disciplines of practical problem solving with creativity. I was involved with making things for film and television, museums, exhibitions and events.
A commission to create antique mirrors took me in a new direction, and with a business partner I formed Saligo Design, which successfully marketed and produced a unique portfolio of mirror based artworks that we supplied to an international client base from Italy to Tbilisi.
With over a decade of experience teaching art, I am passionately committed to looking at the world with fresh eyes and inspiring others to do the same.
