Word from the artist The sea was still and clouds marbled the sky. A crowd had gathered in anticipation. High above them, at the top of a crane stood a girl. A group of Muslim women waited. And waited. The girl on the crane was having second thoughts. The crowd took up a chant of, “Jump! Jump! Jump!” and the group began to disperse, Then, suddenly, she dropped out of the sky and into the frame – saving my photograph – a reluctant symbol of cultural contrasts.
